Henry Nickless & Admiral Nelson
I have heard from several people in New Zealand and Australia about Henry Nickless.
There is no known link between Henry and my Family Tree.
Henry was Captain of a Royal Navy ship before settling in New Zealand.
There is also evidence that he served under Admirial Nelson in the Battle of the Nile.
There is a Henry Nicholes listed in the crew of HMS Victory and it is possible this is the same person.
It is common for the Nickless name to be misspelt.
If you have any further information on Henry Nickless I will be interested to hear. Please email me at rnickless@hotmail.com with a subject name of Henry Nickless.
Some email extracts are listed below.

Henry Nickless and Sarah Alice Edmeades are the great grand parents of *
and my husband the late Edward Nickless (Eddie) I
have a photo of Henry and Sarah probably on their wedding day.
John Nickless of Ruakaka has a pin with a cameo head of Nelson on it which
was given to a Nickless by Nelson (we think a Henry).
The Nickless was with Nelson at the battle of the Nile and it is assumed
that the Henry Nichols, listed on the Victory list the day Nelson died,
is just a misspelling of the name. Was the Nichols spelling possibly
altered to Nickless around the period of this war and sea connection. Maybe
Nickless suited a 'Captain, RN' better than Nichols. Maybe a reason
we in NZ have never been able to find a solution to the connection. Perhaps
two families - 'a wife in every port'. The Nickless's were a bit chatty
towards ladies.
Also in the family a female cousin has a miniature of Lady Hamilton. So
I assume that Nickless knew her too.
And this probably supports the tale.

Had a brief look through my tree stuff, haven't found any link to our
Nickless family yet. But i do have a couple of Henry Nickless's that have a
broken link on my tree, i think they were off Grandpa's other tree that the
only link was something left in a will, there was one of them that we were
unable to link. I need to go through it some more, there are some Henrys'
on it. I have heard the Victory story before, I think it was a Rex Nicholls
who emailed me it. He lives in Australia. I don't have his email address any
more, i think its on the paperwork i gave *, anyway if it was him, he is
related to the Nicklesses on the Victory.
